Outreach Highlights

  • Our biology department provided classroom outreach visits to over 400 elementary school students, focusing on marine animals.
  • Through a partnership with the Central Okanagan Social Studies Teachers Association, three of our faculty members from History, Philosophy and Anthropology gave talks to local social studies teachers on topics including migrant workers and nationalism, Socrates and Citizenship, The ‘Made in British Columbia’ campaign, and ‘Kelowna – from retirement community to University town?’

Volunteerism Highlights

  • Associate Professor, Laura Hooker, served as president of the Central Okanagan Land Trust, which manages around 1,000 acres of property for conservation purposes, as well as a substantial fund for acquiring conservation properties.
  • Professor, Lael Parrott served on the Board of Directors of the Alpine Club of Canada— a member of the International Union of Mountaineering Associations
  • Associate Professor, Blythe Nilson served as a board member of the Center for Inquiry, Kelowna.
