Postdoctoral Fellows

UBC is one of the top-twenty research institutions in the world. Postdoctoral fellows play an indispensable role in this world-class research environment. In the Irving K. Barber School of Arts and Sciences, postdoctoral fellows work with leaders in their field to contribute to a body of knowledge that impacts our region, our country, and the international community.

The Irving K. Barber School of Arts and Sciences offers over thirty undergraduate programs and eight graduate programs.

Dedicated Research Facilities

In addition to dozens of active research labs, Postdoctoral Fellows in the Irving K. Barber School of Arts and Sciences can also choose to work at one of our interdisciplinary Research Institutes or Centres where faculty members from across the social sciences, natural sciences and humanities collaborate on the interconnected and complex issues faced by society today.

Additionally, Postdoctoral Fellows may also collaborate with researchers in other fields at one of the many institutes and centres housed on UBC’s Okanagan campus.

Barber School of Arts and Sciences, you will have access to renowned and award-winning faculty members, who are recognized leaders in their field. If you are interested in working with one of our faculty members as a Postdoctoral Fellow, you can contact the faculty member you are interested in working with directly, or email the Irving K. Barber School of Arts and Sciences Associate Dean of Research, Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.

Fellowships and Funding

In addition to Tri-Council Postdoctoral funding opportunities, you may interested in applying for either a Killam Postdoctoral Research Fellowship, or a Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship.

Postdoctoral fellows are encouraged to also apply with the Irving K. Barber School for an additional $5,000 per year to any successful award for travel or research expenses, in addition to the Office of Research top-up and funding provided by the supervisor.

Human Resources Information

Postdoctoral Fellows are individuals who have completed a doctoral degree and who are seeking the opportunity to train further in a particular area of research. Postdoctoral Fellows at UBC can either be employees or trainees (Award Recipients), depending on the job description, level of direction and nature of research grant.
